Just for fun. These aren’t necessarily my favorite places to breastfeed. But they all have been the most memorable for some positive reason.
1. Breastfeeding support group. A bunch of moms sitting around, with cookies and fruit, bonding over our babies. I wish all mothers everywhere had a local group like this.
2. My grandfather’s funeral. I flew across the country with my 10-week-old baby to be there for it, and I wasn’t about to let a fussy baby force me to leave the service. I nursed him through the entire thing, and both he and I were so grateful. Many people praised him afterward for being “such a good baby, we didn’t hear a peep out of him!”
3. In my bed. Hundreds of times. In the early weeks of sleep deprivation, there was no better place to feed my baby.
4. The mother’s room at our local Westfield Shopping mall. I would have been fine with a chair in a quiet corner in a store, but then I discovered the comfortable, well-decorated mother’s room. They even have small rooms with curtains if you want more privacy.
5. An adorable little shop outside of Los Angeles called Bellies, Babies, and Bosoms. Cute, cozy atmosphere and so many great baby things to look at.
6. On the beach. The breeze, the crashing waves, palm trees, cuddling my baby. . . heavenly.
This was going to be a top 10 list, but I can’t think of any other place worth adding. Instead, I find myself thinking of some of the worst places. That will be the next list. Stay tuned.

Good list! I have some great (terrible) places to add to your “worst” list when you get to it.
Uh oh. I’d love to hear about it.
One of my favorite/best places to nurse when we are out is a dressing room at the store/mall. That way I can close the door, my 3 year old is contained, and Carter can nurse without being distracted. Honestly though, I’ll feed him anywhere, doesn’t bother me a bit. I try to be discreet as possible, but I’m pretty sure lots of people in my town have seen my boob. haha
Angie- That’s great that you can feed him anywhere. I think it’s so good for moms to nurse babies in public just so people get used to it. There are so many women who have never seen another mom nursing, so to them, breastfeeding seems weird and uncomfortable.
I planned to do more public breastfeeding, for that reason and just because babies should be able to eat whenever they are hungry. But ever since he was about 2 months, he has refused to nurse with distractions, no matter how hungry and fussy. It’s not always the most convenient, but I try to look on the bright side, I end up seeking out relaxing places and I get to take a break
Is there a particular breastfeeding cover/drape that you like? There are lots of choices for women who breastfeed, but I was wondering if you found one that had less exposure of mom!?
Elissa- I have an Udder Covers nursing cover that I only used a few times, but it worked well. Like some other brands it has a stiff band at the top that holds it open so you can look straight down at your baby. I liked that feature. I can’t compare it to any other brands but I’ve had friends recommend Bebe Au Lait. I always wanted to try L’oved Baby’s nursing shawls. I had a client wearing one and it looked great- like part of her outfit.
